What's Hot

Security issues, both at chemical plants and on the roads, are hot topics in the CPI these days. The events of Sept. 11 served as a wake-up call to the chemical and industrial shipping and transportation markets. Buyers notice that security surcharges placed on chemical shipments have conveniently taken the place of fuel surcharges, which were dropped in December. But after the terrorist strikes, even the most cynical of chemical buyers can't argue with the need for increased security.
The annual meeting of the National Association of Chemical Distributors (NACD) included a presentation and discussion regarding security issues and featured panelists from the FBI's Hazardous Materials Response Unit (HMRU), as well as the EPA and American Chemistry Council (ACC). Presentation topics included what services are available in the event of emergencies, what companies can do to boost their security and protect themselves from liability issues, and how to deal with government security officials, suppliers, customers, the media, and the general public regarding security issues.
