  • Chrysler shuffles purchasing executive team

By David Hannon -- Purchasing, 2/14/2008 2:00:00 AM

Chrysler has promoted its top purchasing executive, Simon Boag, to the newly created position of vice president of global alliance operations, where he will focus on developing Chrysler's global alliances. Chrysler also named John Campi as its new executive vice president of procurement responsible for worldwide purchasing and supplier quality.

Boag came to Chrysler as vice president of procurement and supply in May from a post in Mercedes, after longtime Chrysler executive Peter Rosenfeld left the newly independent company. Chrysler was sold by Daimler to Cerberus Capital in the spring.

In September, Purchasing reported that Boag said he would aim to provide suppliers with more accurate forecasts in an effort to avoid extra costs. Campi has been working as a consultant with Chrysler since October. Previous to that role, he was at Home Depot, where he was vice president of sourcing and vendor management. Chrysler's CEO Bob Nardelli also came from Home Depot.

In a statement, Campi said, "My goal is to take a disciplined approach to purchasing and apply best practices learned from both within and outside of the automotive industry."
