Nichols Aluminum has closed the aluminum sheet rolling mill in Decatur, Ala. for an indeterminate time, with "very weak orders" from the building and construction sector at the firm's other two rolling mills in Davenport, Iowa, and Lincolnshire, Ill. Speaking during a conference call, Raymond Jean, CEO of parent firm Quanex, says "the building and construction market has seen an unprecedented slowdown, and this has forced us to take a very hard look at the Nichols business."
