Graybar expands line to include GE Security products

Company says enhancement is “most significant”

By Susan Avery -- Purchasing, 12/12/2007 2:32:00 PM

Graybar is now working with GE Security to distribute its security products and systems.

Graybar will carry GE Security video surveillance, intrusion, access control and fiber optic systems. These products are designed to work together to simplify installation for integrators and contractors, and to provide a system for commercial, industrial and institutional end-users. In addition, Graybar carries GE lighting solutions, signaling products from the GE division of Edwards and fiber optic systems from the GE division of IFS.

Mike Dumas, vice president of Graybar’s comm/data business, says adding GE Security “is one of the most significant enhancements Graybar has made to its expanding portfolio of security solutions since entering the security market in 2004.” Graybar stocks security solutions throughout its distribution network of more than 250 locations in North America.

“Being able to install an integrated security solution is a priority for our customers, and it’s the primary reason we sought out a business relationship with GE Security,” says Dumas.

The business relationship between Graybar and GE dates back to 1896 when the supply division of Western Electric began distributing GE lamps. When it was spun off from Western Electric in 1925, the supply division was renamed Graybar after Western Electric founders Elisha Gray and Enos Barton. Graybar employees purchased their company in 1929.

“Our relationship is built on a history of trust and dedication to providing excellent customer service,” adds Dean Seavers, president and CEO, GE Security.

Graybar, in St. Louis, Mo., distributes electrical and communications products and related supply chain management and logistics services.  With annual sales of $5.9 billion in 2006, the company places sixth on Industrial Distribution magazine’s The Top 10 annual list of electrical distributors for 2007.
