A significant slowdown in the electronics industry since fourth quarter 2000 has had a negative impact on the Top 10 distributors' compound annual growth rates (CAGRs). Bell Microproducts once again holds the
top position with the biggest percentage CAGR of 30%. Due to several acquisitions, Memec's compound annual growth rate is not attainable. Memec now consists of Insight Electronics and Unique Electronics.
"We fared better than most during this time period and we're back in the black in fourth quarter," says Don Bell, chairman, president and CEO for Bell Microproducts. "As we come out of the recession, which is taking longer than we'd like as an industry, the strategic investments that we've made—and we gained market share during the downturn—position the company to be a major strategic player going forward."
