  • Airbus fixes wiring problem, but is it too late?

By Dave Hannon -- Purchasing, 1/22/2007 3:31:00 PM

Aircraft maker Airbus says it has completed the electrical installation on its A380 jumbo freighter. Company spokesperson Tore Prang said in a statement that "We have handed the aircraft to the cabin equipment team.”

But is the damage done from the delay? When Airbus first announced it was having issues with the installation of its wiring on the A380 because of a glitch in its design software, several customers including FedEx said they were canceling orders because the project would be delayed by two years.

But the Airbus has decided to stick with the project even if it loses its last customer, UPS. Last week, rumors circulated that UPS was canceling its order, but later in the same day UPS said it was still evaluating its $2.5 billion order with Airbus.
