    Sheet steel increase

    Source: CIBC World Markets

WHAT IT MEANS:Despite a $30/ton increase announcement by the mills, "prices of flat-rolled products in North America in the fourth quarter are expected to rise by $20," says CIBC World Markets analyst Mike Willemse.

    7.5%

    Copper price drop

    Source: London Metal Exchange

WHAT IT MEANS:Buyers were paying substantially less for London Metal Exchange copper in early November as worries about a slowing U.S. economy, moderating global demand, increased production and rising stocks prompted investors to cash in and take profits.

    250,000

    Metric-ton zinc surplus

    Source: Societe Générale

WHAT IT MEANS:As supply expands, prices still come down, say the London-based Societe Générale nonferrous analysts. They say the zinc surplus will continue to grow as production will rise 18% between 2006 and 2008, a view that's broadly in line with the International Lead and Zinc Study Group's recent projection.
