Electronics manufacturing services (EMS) provider Celestica has introduced a number of so-called green services to help OEMs comply with the European Union initiative that bans lead and other hazardous materials in electronics equipment.
Dan Shea, chief technology officer, says Celestica is fully compliant with the EU's environmental legislation in advance of the July 1, 2006 deadline and the new services will enable OEMs to meet the compliance deadlines and offer "reliable, environmentally-friendly products to their end-customers."
Celestica will help OEMs develop compliance programs and roadmaps that show what must be done for OEMs' products to meet the initiative requirements. Celestica also offers a turnkey program for OEMs who want the EMS provider to manage their product lines' conversions to lead-free. The service is designed to reduce the cost to comply with the initiative and free up OEM design teams to focus on core competencies.
Celestica is also offering technology qualification services to make sure OEMs meet the EU compliance requirements as well as quality and reliability requirements without incurring any fixed costs or equipment investment.
