Aircraft maker Airbus has announced that Tom Williams, currently executive committee member in charge of programmes, will take on the role of acting head of procurement, replacing outgoing Henri Courpron as of March 30.
Williams held the role previously in 2004 until July 2005. Airbus President and CEO Louis Gallois said in a statement that Williams “has an excellent track record of successfully delivering significant achievements across the business, including those in his role as the previous head of procurement. His expertise and leadership will add further momentum to the important steps ahead in the procurement area and in accompanying our suppliers towards a strong joint future."
According to the Airbus web site, Courpron is a 20-year veteran of the company and was appointed executive vice president of procurement in July 2005, and was in charge of all procurement across Airbus.
Airbus’ supply chain is under a microscope after a major design flaw held back its A-380 jumbo freighter. In December, the company said it would slash its supply base by 80% and save $2.5 billion by 2010.
