  • Benchmark survey: Immigration and supplier risk

By Purchasing Staff -- Purchasing, 3/8/2007 7:00:00 AM

Three hundred immigration agents raided a New Bedford, Mass. leather products manufacturer this week and arrested 350 out of its 500 workers on immigration violations, effectively closing the company, which has supplied $100 million worth of product to the U.S. military.

Politics aside, the story has a clear supplier risk management angle to it, begging the question of do procurement professionals need to become immigration experts. Should your regular supplier evaluation process include an evaluation of your supplier’s workers’ immigration status?

    The Editors of Purchasing.
