Less-than-truckload carrier FedEx Freight and its FedEx National division issued a general rate increase of 5.59% to take effect April 2.
"Shippers have told us they require a high degree of certainty, shipment integrity and actionable information,” said Dennie Carey, senior vice president of marketing for FedEx Freight, in a statement. “In order to meet these customer needs, FedEx Freight and FedEx National LTL are continuing to invest in our people, equipment, facilities and technology.”
The 2007 increase is well below the increase of 5.95% that FedEx Freight issued a year ago.
In a recent series of interviews, trucking companies have told Purchasing that capacity for trucking has increased in early 2007 and that demand is significantly lower than it was a year ago. Purchasing will cover the issue in depth in its April 5 issue.
