Worldwide unit shipments of personal computers will increase 13.4% to 168 million in 2004, according to market researcher iSuppli, with revenues rising 12% to $132.8 billion from $118.6 billion.
Although an increase, it's a smaller increase than iSuppli had earlier projected because of a decline in shipments in mobile PCs and a corresponding rise in desktop computer sales. The shift in sales away from more expensive mobile PCs toward cheaper desktop computers is driving down the overall average selling price (ASP) and depressing revenue growth. The shift is likely seasonal as portable PC sales have been strong all year.
