According to a report in the Austin American-Statesmen, Dell has hired Dick Conrad away from Hewlett-Packard and named him vice president of worldwide procurement. (Purchasing is currently trying to confirm this report with internal Dell sources.)
While at HP, Conrad helped guide its procurement operations through the Compaq merger to win Purchasing’s Medal of Professional Excellence in 2004.
In a separate report, Dell said it would spend upwards of $2.8 billion in China by the end of 2006, up almost $800 million from 2005. Dell officials said China is now its third-largest market.
