World Semiconductor Trade Statistics has downgraded its chip forecast for 2006. The organization says the chip industry will grow revenue 8.5% by the end of 2006 to $246.4 billion. WSTS earlier had forecast that chip industry revenue would grow 10.1% for the year. Weaker than expected revenue for microprocessors was one reason for the forecast downgrade. WSTS says the semiconductor industry will grow 8.6% in 2007 and 12.1% in 2008.
