ELECTRONICS: The best at Intel

For outstanding commitment to quality and performance excellence in 2003, Intel Corporation has named 16 suppliers as winners of its Supplier Continuous Quality Improvement (SCQI) award. "These companies gave us the highest levels of quality, delivery, innovation, and customer satisfaction," says Sunline Chou, senior vice president and general manager of Intel's Technology and Manufacturing Group. "Ten of the suppliers are repeat winners reflecting their consistently high performance."
The 2003 SCQI winners are: Asymtek, a Nordson Company; Disco; Fujimi; George Fischer Piping Systems; IBM; Ibiden; Kelly Services; Kester, Nidec; Sanyo Denki; Senju Metal Industry; Shinko Electric Industries; Sumitomo Mitsubishi Silicon; TDK; Tokyo Electron and Tokyo Ohka Kogyo.
"Intel established the Supplier Continuous Quality Improvement program in 1987 to engage suppliers in a joint effort for continuously improving product and service quality," says Robert J. Baker, senior vice president and general manager of Intel's Technology and Manufacturing Group. "[These] suppliers exemplify excellence in their areas of service and contributions to Intel. They are well positioned for future challenges."
The SCQI awards are part of Intel's Supplier Continuous Quality Improvement process, which encourages Intel's suppliers to strive for excellence and continuous improvement. To qualify for SCQI status, suppliers must score at least 95 percent on a report card that assesses performance and ability to meet cost, quality, availability, delivery, technology and responsiveness goals.
Intel also awarded 29 companies with its Preferred Quality Supplier (PQS) award for outstanding commitment to quality and performance excellence in 2003. "Our PQS award winners have achieved significant results in innovation, affordability and operational excellence," says Jai K. Hahku, Intel vice president, Technology and Manufacturing Group, and general manager, Technology Manufacturing Engineering. "[They] have consistently exceeded our expectations and are role models for our industry."
Award winning suppliers are: Air Products and Chemicals; Alphasem; Analog Devices; Arch Chemicals; Asahi Kasei EMD; Chaun Choung Technology; Delta Design, a Cohu Company; Dainippon Screen Manufacturing; Dow Corning; Etron Technology; Henkel Technologies; Hewlett-Packard; Hon Hai/Foxconn; JSR; Mitsui Chemicals; Moses Lake Industries (Tama Chemicals); Munters Corporation; Murata Manufacturing; NGK Spark Plug/ NTK Technologies; Nichicon; Nikon; NPTest; ON Semiconductor; Securitas; Shin-Etsu Handotai Group; Tektronix ; United Van Lines; VWR International and Wieson Technologies.
The PQS award, Intel's second-highest supplier award, is part of Intel's Supplier Continuous Quality Improvement process that encourages suppliers to strive for excellence and continuous improvement. To qualify for PQS status, suppliers must score at least 80 percent on a report card that assesses performance and ability to meet cost, quality, availability, delivery, technology and responsiveness goals. Suppliers must also manage and deliver on a challenging improvement plan and a quality systems assessment.
