  • The Genie Group leads in productivity

    Staff -- Purchasing, 5/17/2001 2:00:00 AM

By far the leader in employee productivity, The Genie Group posted $3.5 million in sales per employee in N. America, followed by Memec with $1.8 million in sales per employee. They were followed closely by Dependable Component Supply with $1.3 million in sales per employee and Projections Unlimited with $1.2 million.

Nearly all of the Top 10 in productivity broke the million-dollar barrier in 2000, compared to only three during the previous year.

According to Purchasing Magazine's survey, five of the Top 10 distributors, Arrow, Avnet, Bell Microproducts, Memec and Pioneer-Standard, rank as leaders in productivity.

Distributors continue to increase their use of bar coding. Of the Top 75 distributors, 28 distributors have 100% of their inventory bar coded, down from 30 the previous year for the Top 75, while 15 distributors bar code between 50% and 99% of their inventories, up from nine the previous year. The remainder has 50% or less of their inventory bar coded.
