    Amerigon Inc. has named Brent W. Jump as its manager of purchasing and logistics. Jump comes to Amerigon with more than nine years experience in manufacturing, purchasing and project management, most recently in core powertrain purchasing at Ford Motor Co., where he was responsible for procuring steel components for Ford's powertrain applications worth more than $100 million. At Amerigon, Jump will report directly to CEO Daniel R. Coker and his duties encompass the management of all inventory, purchasing and logistics functions. Jump is also responsible for the supply chain management of the company's contract manufacturing operations in Mexico and China. One of Jump's first priorities will be to organize the company's purchasing and materials management functions at its headquarters in Dearborn, Mich. to be in closer contact with its customer base.

    William G. Hatzichristos was appointed director of corporate procurement of Sterling Mets, L.P., and its affiliates (New York Mets baseball team). He has more than 13 years experience in building and leading integrated operations for domestic and international corporations focusing on procurement for bottom line impact. Prior to joining Sterling Mets, L.P., Hatzichristos served as senior manager of purchasing operations of LiveWire Corp. since it was founded in 1998.

    General Motors Corp. recently named Roger Johansson as vice president of purchasing for European operations, taking over from Robert Socia, who has become managing director of GM South Africa. In his new role, Johansson will be in charge of purchasing at Adam Opel AG, GM's main subsidiary in Europe. In addition to these new duties, Johansson will continue in his current capacity as general executive director, Europe, at GM-FIAT Worldwide Purchasing, the joint venture between GM and Fiat established in 2001. It combines all former purchasing activities of GM and Fiat in both Europe and Latin America.

    Willie A. Deese has left GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals and joined Merck & Co. as senior vice president, global procurement. Following the merger of Glaxo and Smith Kline, Deese was instrumental in integrating global procurement for the newly combined organization as well as standardizing systems and processes. Taking over for Deese at GSK is Joe Meier, who will become senior vice president of global procurement and third-party management. Meier brings a combination of R&D and purchasing experience to the position, having worked the first 11 years of his career in various scientific roles.

    Northrop Grumman's Ship Systems sector has appointed Richard Schenk, presently vice president, material, as vice president, supply chain management. He will report directly to Philip Dur, president of Ship Systems, and have responsibility for unit assembly, component manufacturing, planning, production control, transportation, material acquisition/movement and warehousing.

    PolyOne Corp. has named Mark G. Simmons to the newly created position of vice president of sourcing and logistics. In the role, Simmons will be responsible for developing and executing PolyOne's global sourcing and logistics strategies and will report to Kenneth M. Smith, chief information and human resources officer. Simmons comes to PolyOne from his role as president of ePC Consulting, a London-based firm that specializes in implementing effective sourcing and product design strategies.
