To better serve customers, Grainger, Lake Forest, Ill., plans to expand and enhance its operations in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
As part of this multiyear expansion, Grainger expects to revamp its distribution network by opening new facilities, relocating others and expanding some of its existing facilities in the Tri-State area.
"We're doing exactly what our customers asked us to do," says Mike Hade, regional branch services vice president, at Grainger. "Our customers told us they wanted more of the products they need to maintain, repair and operate their facilities positioned closer to them."
Grainger currently operates out of 23 locations throughout the Tri-State area. The company plans to increase its number of locations by about 25% once the expansion is complete. It also plans to increase its local workforce by approximately 10% to 20% and will increase the size of its distribution network by about 40%.
Grainger's local investments are part of the company's market expansion initiative, a multiyear program designed to enhance Grainger's presence in the top metropolitan markets across the U.S. As part of the effort, changes are either underway or have been completed in 20 markets across the country. Grainger plans to invest between $50 million and $80 million in 2007 to expand and enhance its operations, including investments in the Tri-State area.
In addition, Grainger recently expanded its product offering. Earlier this year, it published an enhanced catalog featuring more than 138,000 MRO products.
