Purchasing execs on the move...

Magline recently named Bill McFaun as its global supply chain director, responsible for domestic and international logistics and supply chain management. McFaun’s duties at Magline include planning, forecasting, customer order satisfaction, vendor relationships, inventory and global infrastructure to support the needs of the organization.
Williams Controls recently promoted Gary Hafner to vice president of global manufacturing with responsibility for Williams’ worldwide manufacturing facilities and operations, as well as the company’s global sourcing, materials management, logistics and purchasing. Most recently, Hafner served as Williams Controls’ manufacturing manager, focusing on the development and implementation of the Toyota Production System and Lean manufacturing processes throughout the company. Hafner has also been instrumental in the start up of Williams’ Suzhou, China manufacturing facility. Prior to joining Williams, he was a production manager at Warn Industries, where implemented the Toyota Production System in its component parts operation.
Pacific Gas and Electric named Bill Harper as its vice president of strategic sourcing and operations support. Harper will lead the utility’s supply chain, sourcing, materials operations, supplier diversity, transportation services, corporate real estate, transformation, environmental services, safety, health and claims, technical and land services and environmental quality assurance work. Harper was previously vice president and CPO for the Toronto-based Rogers Communications and prior to that was CPO and director of shared services for Wellmark in Des Moines, Iowa. He also held a variety of procurement and sourcing managerial positions at Rockwell International, Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Northrop and McDonnell Douglas Helicopters.
The Wrigley Company announced Pat Mitchell has assumed the new role of vice president and CPO. In this position, he and his team will continue to support strategic sourcing of materials, negotiation excellence, and supplier management programs for the supply chain organization. Additionally, they will extend their expert services, their sourcing and negotiating skills across the entire Wrigley organization. Mitchell joined Wrigley in 2002 as vice president of procurement, becoming vice president of global procurement in 2004. He came to Wrigley following a long career at Kellogg’s and Keebler across a wide range of finance, manufacturing and purchasing roles.
Dell’s former vice president of logistics, Fred Montoya, has joined procurement software provider Aankhen as its president. Montoya’s work at Dell was profiled in a Purchasing story on Dell’s air freight practices (Purchasing, November 17, 2005; p. 50).
Food distributor Nash Finch Co. recently named Jeffrey Poore as its executive vice president of supply chain management, heading up the company’s new supply chain group. As head of supply chain, Poore will oversee functions that were previously part of the company’s Food Distribution business including warehouse operations, transportation, and procurement. Poore was previously senior vice president, military at the company. Prior to joining Nash Finch, he served as vice president of logistics of Richfood Holdings.
Microsoft Corp. recently named Fernando Hernandez as its new supplier diversity director. Hernandez comes to the post after being senior vice president of multicultural and diversity strategy for Washington Mutual. Prior to that he served as the executive director of supplier diversity at AT&T.
Robert J. Woelfling, vice president of global sourcing and operations strategy at The Hershey Co., will retire effective Sept. 30. The company has begun a search for this position.
Avado Brands has named John Koch senior vice president of procurement, research and development and quality assurance. Koch was promoted from his previous post as vice president of research and development. In this newly expanded role, Koch will manage purchasing and distributing for the two Avado-owned restaurant brands.
