A little-known company, Irvine, Calif.-based named Vizio, has used its low-price policy to jump ahead of Sharp, Samsung and Sony to become the No. 1 flat-panel TV maker in North America. USA Today reports that Vizio held 12% of the flat-panel TV market in the second quarter, according to data from market researcher DisplaySearch, which found that former No. 1 Samsung had an 11% share. Vizio sales have skyrocketed because its products are among the least expensive on the market, says electronics analyst Riddhi Patel. a researcher iSuppli. Example: For a 32-inch liquid-crystal display (LCD) television, Vizio offers two sets: one for $600 and another for $650--while competing products area round $700.
