In recognition for its excellent record in providing outstanding quality raw materials and service to Gillette's German subsidiary Braun, the well-known maker of small electrical appliances, BASF has received the Gillette Co.'s Omnimark Award. Particular recognition was given to BASF as a supplier of specialty styrene polymers and color-matching services for more than 30 shades of styrene polymers that didn't compromise quality.
BASF supplies Braun with LuranS, an acrylonitrile/styrene/acrylate co-polymer that is used primarily in such products as electric toothbrushes, oral irrigators, infrared ear thermometers and hair dryers. The specialty Terlux (MABS polymer) is used for the digital display window of the company's blood pressure monitors. Apart form the styrenic specialties, Braun uses other BASF plastics in a number of such electrical items as razors, electric toothbrushes and kitchen equipment.
