Grainger is expanding its security product line to include a broader offering of mechanical and electronic security supplies.
The events of September 11th, combined with an ongoing threat of terrorism and rising crime rates have spurred customer demand for increased safety and security products, the company says. According to industry reports, sales of security products in the U.S. are expected to top $18 billion by 2008.
Feedback from customers drove the distributor’s adding more security products, bringing its total offering to more than 4,300 items. It has increased its selection of hinges and door hardware, security doors, key control cabinets, machines, blanks and duplicators, as well as padlocks and accessories. It also added cylindrical locksets, deadbolts and boltlocks.
Grainger extended its product line also by now offering more options for access control locksets and keypads, metal detectors, security cameras and supplies and electromagnetic locks and devices.
“We bolstered our security offering to enable customers to meet their security retrofit and replacement products, allowing them to create safer environments at their businesses and facilities,” says Bob Cocks, vice president, merchandising, at Grainger.
This expansion is part of a an ongoing commitment by Grainger to respond to industry trends and match customer product requirements with its product offering, enabling customers to consolidate MRO purchases. Grainger launched its product expansion activities with an announcement in Purchasing in March 2006 with the addition of fastener lines to its offering.
