Arrow gets security certification

By Purchasing Staff -- Purchasing, 5/3/2007 5:04:00 PM

Arrow Electronics has announced it has received certification to the Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) from the Customs and Border Protection division of the United States Department of Homeland Security.

C-TPAT is a voluntary government/business initiative to build cooperative relationships that strengthen and improve the international supply chain and United States border security.

“Our commitment to C-TPAT reinforces our central role within the global supply chain,” says Wayne Brody, vice president, assistant secretary and chief compliance officer, Arrow, based in Melville, N.Y. “Our customers and suppliers will benefit from our participation with a more secure and efficient supply chain, enabling for faster product delivery with reduced border delays and expedited processing for inspections of their packages.”

To qualify for participation in C-TPAT, companies moving large quantities of goods across international borders must submit a profile based on a comprehensive assessment of their supply chain security procedures using the C-TPAT criteria or guidelines jointly developed by Customs and Border Protection and the trade community for their specific enrollment category.

The criteria encompass the following areas: business partner requirements, procedural security, physical security, personnel security, education and training, access controls, manifest procedures, information security and conveyance security.
