More companies are turning to procurement not only to help reduce travel costs, but also to apply purchasing discipline to the buy.
Eighty-seven percent of companies polled recently by Aberdeen in Boston, Mass., for its new report, Travel and Procurement: The Convergence, either have the travel department fall under procurement or work closely with them.
Half the respondents report this collaboration has resulted in improved compliance to policies and to preferred suppliers, both of which help in contract negotiations. Specifically, these companies have:
-
An average compliance rate of 90% to corporate travel policies and procedures.
-
Place 87% of their T&E (travel and entertainment) spend under management.
Aberdeen researchers polled 370 companies for the report.
