To boost sales, firm plans to match competitors on prices

Office Depot, the second-largest U.S. office supply chain, says sales will remain challenging in early 2008—noting that same-store sales could be close to flat. Analysts say sales at office supply chains, including industry leader Staples, have ebbed in recent quarters as slowing job growth, the weak U.S. housing sector and credit market worries have led many small businesses to cut spending.
Office Depot says in a regulatory filing reported by Reuters that it is trying to lure sales from North American small business owners by offering a low-price guarantee that includes matching competitors' prices on identical products.
