Global PC maker Lenovo is investing $30 million for two new manufacturing plants and fulfillment operations centers in Monterrey, Mexico and Baddi, India.
Lenovo officials said the India plant will be up and running in the third quarter with the capability to supply the Indian market with up to 2 million PCs a year. The Mexican facility will be online in mid-2008 and supply up to 5 million PCs to the Americas markets.
Gerry Smith, senior vice president of Lenovo's Global Supply Chain, said the company is "also actively scouting locations in Central and Eastern Europe and anticipate shortly announcing a similar type of installation.” Last month it announced a new fulfillment center in North Carolina to support its U.S. operations.
Lenovo also recently said it was centralizing its global advertising operations in Bangalore, India to leverage the low-cost skilled labor base in the region.
