  • FedEx Freight issues rate increase

LTL carrier to push hikes of 5.48% in new year

By Dave Hannon -- Purchasing, 12/26/2007 11:21:00 AM

Less-than-truckload carrier FedEx Freight has issued a general rate increase of 5.48% for its customers in North America effective January 14. The company’s FedEx National LTL division, which is the former Watkins Motor Lines, will implement a commensurate increase as well.

The company last raised its rates 5.59% in April, which was well below its 5.95% increase in 2006.

The latest increase might meet with more resistance from shippers, as demand for LTL services continues to slide and carriers get more competitive.
