New catalog released
Newark InOne, the leading small-quantity distributor of electronic components and test equipment in North America, has released Catalog 122. The new catalog has 28,000 parts additional parts, including products from 18 new manufacturers including Conitec, Datasystems, Softec Microsystems SRL, Xeltek, Mercury United, Taiyo Yuden and ETI Systems.
Chinese fab opens
Semiconductor Manufacturing International has begun production at its 300mm fabrication plant in Beijing. The opening of the fab will help propel Beijing to a center for chip manufacturing in China. However, the new fab will have obstacles to overcome, including sandstorms during some months and a shortage of water. But industry analysts say the drawbacks can be overcome and Beijing will become an important location for chip manufacturing in China along with Shanghai.
