Rails May Stifle Trucks

The higher the cost of diesel fuel, the more price-competitive that rail is versus truck, says analyst Randy Cousins at BMO Capital Markets. That's why he believes such railroads as the Norfolk Southern "have the greatest opportunity to grab market share from the trucking industry" through competitive rates "even if the economic slowdown lasts well into 2009."
