A recent study by ARC Advisory Services found the logistics visibility and control market has been the fastest growing market for logistics software, growing faster than both the warehouse management and transportation management markets. ARC split the LV&C solutions into four categories: supply side, demand side, international visibility, and reverse and service logistics. Steve Banker, service director for supply chain management at ARC says, "The historical cumulative average growth rate for the years 2000-2003 is 29%, which was surprising to me…Because of the disappearance of so many of the startups, I assumed the market had not had great growth. While there have been many exits, the market leaders have had strong growth in this area."

The Coalition plans to focus its efforts in three areas: Requiring enhanced cargo information, monitoring containers in transit, and implementing a transportation worker identification credential.

The International Express Carriers Conference, the international trade association of the express delivery industry, became the Global Express Association in September. "We believe that the new organization better represents the nature of our association and gives emphasis to the much more active posture we want to take in matters affecting global commerce and transportation," said Anton van der Lande, UPS vice president for public affairs international and the new chairman of the GEA Executive Committee.
