Dell to shift supply chain operations, HQ to Singapore

Personal computer giant Dell is moving more of its global supply chain and manufacturing operations to Singapore, the company’s current hub for Asian operations.
According to a report in the Singapore newspaper Business Times, Dell will add 300-400 jobs in the Singapore region focusing on supply chain and manufacturing.
“We rely on a supply base that is disproportionately located in Asia, from Taiwan, China and other parts of the region,” said Dell spokesman T.R. Reid in the Business Times story. “We recognize there are some things that might historically have been single headquarter functions but they can be better done if they are based somewhere else.”
The move comes a day after reports that Dell said it would restructure its company to make Singapore its “shared headquarters.” Dell did in fact file with the SEC to shift ownership structures (see SEC filing here).
"What this reflects is that a large number of our suppliers are in Asia," said Dell spokesman Bob Pearson. "Singapore is increasing in its importance as a global support hub for our supply chain operations and manufacturing. We are essentially globalizing our headquarters functions.”
