TAL Manufacturing Solutions of New Delhi will produce floor beams of advanced titanium and composite materials for Boeing's 787 Dreamliner airplane program "to provide for a best-value solution and significant weight savings." In a statement, Boeing says the subsidiary of Tata Motors will manufacture the structural components at a new facility in Nagpur, India, which then will be transported to Boeing manufacturing partners in Japan, Italy and the U.S. for further assembly. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner, the world's first mostly composite commercial airplane, will use more titanium and less aluminum than earlier commercial jetliners. Atam Arya, TAL's managing director, says the contract is "a turning point for the Indian manufacturing industry to gain a footprint in the global aerospace business." In a statement, he says "TAL already has an established reputation in state-of-the-art precision engineering; the agreement with Boeing allows us to open yet another frontier."
