Avnet stays on top with 58.5% revenue growth
Staff -- Purchasing, 5/17/2001 2:00:00 AM
Avnet held onto its leading position in North American sales with $8.4 billion in revenue. The company also expanded its worldwide sales to $11.8 billion, up from $7.0 billion in 1999.
Although Avnet's major acquisitions in 1999 were in North America, which propelled the reseller into the top slot that year, the distributor targeted most of its acquisition strategies in the global marketplace in 2000. However, the global distributor announced its acquisition of Kent Electronics earlier this year, which strengthens Avnet's position in the N. American interconnect, passive and electromechanical (IP&E) marketplace and network integration services.
The distributor made several global acquisitions last year including part of the VEBA Electronics Group in Europe, Cosco/Jung Kwang, a Motorola semiconductor distributor in Korea, and Eurotronics, a leading electronic component distributor in Europe.
Who acquired whom in 2000?

| SOURCE: PURCHASING MAGAZINE Consolidation is nothing new in electronics distribution. The big consolidation news last year was the sale of divisions of VEBA to Arrow and Avnet. In 2001, Avnet will acquire Kent Electronics, and more acquisitions by major distributors are inevitable. |
