Output of U.S. transportation services rose in February to its second highest level on record. The Department of Transportation's Transportation Services Index (TSI), a measure of the month-to-month changes in the output of services provided by the for-hire transportation industries, rose 1.4% to 120.4 in February from 118.7 in January. The index was up 5.1% from 114.5 in February 2003, the department's Bureau of Transportation Statistics said.

Electronics distributor Avnet has named Andy Bryant president of its newly created global Avnet Logistics business. Bryant will be charged with the oversight of warehousing, certain value-added services, shipping and supply-chain services for both of Avnet's operating groups. "Andy will be responsible for leveraging Avnet's global scale and scope in logistics to streamline our processes across regions and businesses," said CEO Roy Vallee. "He'll also be responsible for marketing Avnet's logistics capabilities as an expert third-party logistics provider to the technology supply chain."
