When not attending educational workshops and keynote addresses by such personalities as Lou Dobbs, purchasing professionals at the 91st annual ISM conference this week in Minneapolis had opportunity to meet with more than 130 suppliers of MRO items, software tools and other goods and services.
Distributors of MRO and other indirect items such as Staples, Office Depot, Kaman Industrial Technologies, Fastenal, Precision Industries and Hagermeyer had personnel on hand to speak with buyers on technical issues surrounding new products and service offerings. Providers of pcards such as Visa, MasterCard, GE Corporate Payment Services and U.S. Bank Corporate Payment Systems used the conference to share news of their companies with attendees. There were also suppliers of sourcing, procurement, contract management and SRM software at the show. One exhibitor, 3M MRO Markets, showcased its new Maintenance and Repair Job Solutions at its booth. 3M MRO Job Solutions are 3M products pre-chosen and grouped together for specific maintenance and repair jobs and help to simplify the MRO product selection process. They help streamline the ordering process. Their use helps MRO buyers reduce transaction costs and inventory by pre-identifying specific products and key categories. (www.3M.com). Technical Services Associates and Procusoft used ISM’s educational exhibit to announce its partnership that promises to address demand for “best value sourcing.” When used with Puridiom, TSA’s e-procurement software, Procusoft’s “apples and oranges comparison engine” integrates the ability to analyze and assess proposals for both products and services based on buyers’ needs and knowledge of the buying firm’s experts. The tool automates evaluation of RFPs, helping to eliminate the procurement team’s need to read, assess and score each proposal; specific business processes, rules and logic captured in Procusoft’s system are capable of doing the work of the team.
