Newark InOne has RoHs help

With the July 1 date looming for the European Union’s Restriction of Hazardous Substances directive (RoHS) to become law, Newark InOne is offering new compliance help on its RoHS Express site. (www.newarkinone.com/rohs).
Newark InOne has identified four basic steps that an original equipment manufacturer will typically consider on its way towards compliance with the RoHS directive. These steps form the framework for the revamped RoHS Express site: The steps include:
* Understand RoHS.
* Analyze parts lists/bills of material.
* Purchase compliant parts.
* Assure RoHS compliance accuracy.
Design engineers and component buyers can easily identify their level of progress, and use the tools and/or content provided under each step to progress towards compliance.
For example, at step 2, a company should be analyzing their electronic part purchases, to see which are already compliant, which are changing their stock numbers and which have compliant substitutes available. Site visitors can make use of Newark InOne's free RoHS Data Service to discern this critical information, even if they are not current customers, by calling 1.800.4.NEWARK or visiting www.newarkinone.com/bom.
Paul Tallentire, president of catalog distributor Newark InOne, says RoHS will to impact the distribution industry this year. He notes that many second- and third tier contract manufacturers are looking to distributors for information concerning RoHs.
"This year will see a significant increase for request of RoHS compliant products," says Tallentire. "There will be an increase in terms of design and prototyping, but the jury is out on whether it will result in incremental demand for components.
He says he expects there will be more site vests to Newark InOne’s RoHS Express website which offers free information about RoHS compliant products and suppliers
