Specialty chemicals producer Rohm & Haas unveiled plans to build a 25,000 metric ton/year acrylic emulsion facility in Nhon Trach, Vietnam.
When it is completed in 2009, the new $10 million facility will supply the rapidly growing markets for paints and coatings in Vietnam, according to a Rohm & Haas statement. A spokesperson from Rohm & Haas tells Purchasing.com that this is the company's first facility in Vietnam, but that "We expect to continue to grow other areas of our portfolio in this country, beyond acrylic emulsions, in coming years. We are building the plant with the primary intention to serve the needs of Vietnam, but we do ship materials elsewhere. Vietnam has been supplied by our operations in China, for example. As demand grows, we could easily see serving the needs of other nearby regional needs as well."
“Demand [for paints and coatings in Vietnam] now expected to grow at 15% per year for the next 10 years,” said Bruce Hoechner, vice president and Asia-Pacific regional director for Rohm & Haas’ business unit. “We simply must build a plant here now in order to serve the growing needs of our customers.”
Within the past six months, Rohm and Haas has commissioned new plants in Sanshui, Foshan, China and Chennai, India, and expanded a facility in Taloja, India. The company is also building or expanding plants in Russia, Turkey and Mexico.
