The U.S. Labor Department's monthly Producer Price Index plummeted 2.8% in October, the largest monthly drop ever recorded, mostly due to the massive declines in oil and fuel prices. The core index, which measures all commodities with the exception of food and fuel prices, actually increased in October, indicating how much the fuel price declines pulled the overall index down.
