Strategic sourcing news. Light scanning technologies developer Microvision is launching a major restructuring that includes the introduction of a "strategic sourcing discipline aimed at insuring that we identify and qualify all critical component suppliers early in the product development cycle" a company statement said. Microvision expects a net loss of $5.1 million to $5.6 million in its fourth quarter.

Purchasing execs on the move Tyco International in January promoted Shelley Stewart, Jr. to senior vice president of operational excellence and chief procurement officer. Stewart will report to Tyco chairman and chief executive officer Ed Breen. Stewart is a member of Purchasing's Editorial Advisory Board, and recently named the magazine's Supply Chain Manager of the Year. In this new position, Stewart will lead Tyco's Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, working capital, real estate and strategic sourcing initiatives at Tyco.

Accuride Corp. has appointed Ben Laaper to vice president of global sourcing, responsible for procurement and logistics at all Accuride business units and facilities. Since 1996, Laaper has served as the director of materials and purchasing. In his expanded role, he will drive Accuride's Continual Improvement processes surrounding procurement reengineering at the company.
