CNF promotes Plaat to VP of procurement
CNF Inc. announced today that Mitchell E. Plaat has been promoted to vice president, procurement. In his new position, he becomes the company's chief procurement officer, overseeing the design, development and implementation of specifications and purchasing programs for all supplier goods and revenue equipment.
Air freight growth slips
Air freight grew a "disappointingly low" 3.2% in 2005, according to the IATA. Freight traffic was expected to pick up again in 2006 and grow 5-6%, with passenger traffic expanding at the same rate, IATA Director, General Giovanni Bisignani said. "Air freight, however, is disappointingly low as a result of weaker demand from critical sectors, such as IT and semiconductors," he added
Universal beefs up its intermodal business
Universal Truckload Services recently acquired four intermodal companies that will operate as part of its Mason Dixon Intermodal subsidiary: Marc Largent of Los Angeles, Diamond Logistics of Houston, Assure Intermodal of Memphis, Tenn., and DiJulio Enterprises of Seattle.
