Beijing has named Vice Premier Wu Yi as the top government troubleshooter on food and product quality and safety the issue. Wu will oversee a 19-member, cabinet-level panel to address quality and safety problems. The move, announced by the government on its official Web site and reported by China Daily, reflects Beijing's growing concern about international reaction to a series of scandals involving Chinese exports. The new government panel will bring together officials from several agencies that have jurisdiction over food and product supervision.
