A grant from The Lord Foundation will allow the University of Southern California to establish its Center for Global Distribution and Supply Chains, which will explore best practices and knowledge in distribution and supply management across global economies, as well as global sourcing strategies, through collaborative faculty-student-industry research. "We will investigate the efficiency and effectiveness of far-flung global supply chains and the strategic procurement and sourcing strategies adopted by firms in several industries and their impact on competitiveness," said Raj Rajagopalan, chair of the Marshall School of Business' Information and Operations Management department at USC, which is hosting the center. "We also are interested in studying and improving supply chain operations for disaster and humanitarian relief activities and developing mechanisms for leveraging the Internet to improve logistics in developing countries."
