    • Commerce One considering filing Chapter 11
Supplier relationship management technology provider Commerce One is considering "significant reduction or discontinuation of our operations, other expense reductions, and/or a sale of all or a portion of our assets." In a recent SEC filing, the company said it is considering filing for Chapter 11 protection and shareholders may see no payout. The company named Peter Seidenberg as its new chief financial officer in September when its unrestricted cash balance was about $700,000. The company is in discussions with potential buyers of its assets, according to the filing.

    • Supply chain software firm Logility recently acquired the privately held Demand Management, a St. Louis-based provider of supply chain planning systems marketed under the Demand Solutions brand, for $9.5 million in cash. Under the terms of the agreement, Demand Management will immediately become a wholly owned subsidiary of Logility, and Mike Campbell, president and CEO of Demand Management, will remain with the company as president of the new subsidiary.

    • Supply chain software firm Manugistics recently denied rumors of a takeover despite four years of losses and declining revenues. In a story in the Business Gazette of Maryland, new CEO Joseph L. Cowan said Manugistics will reduce its workforce by about 90 employees in the next five months through attrition and layoffs, but the company is not looking for a merger or a sale of the company.

    • A recent study from Aberdeen Group found the typical e-sourcing user strategically sources only half of addressable spending and is unable to implement 20% to 25% of the savings negotiated online. However, those companies sourcing more than 80% of their spending can implement more than 90% of the savings. Aberdeen found that e-sourcing leaders leveraged process discipline, performance and knowledge management, and flexible negotiation methods to achieve greater success. They also secure top-level executive support to guarantee resources and enforce compliance for their sourcing programs.
