Buyers can expect a shortage of NAND flash memory in the fourth quarter because of booming demand from the portable media players market. The popularity of flash-based players such as iPod has resulted in unprecedented demand for NAND memory, says researcher Gartner. Apple is expected to come out with a 10-12 gigabyte iPod in the fourth quarter which will further boost flash demand. Gartner says demand will outstrip supply by 5.8% in the fourth quarter.
