Allied signs Kemet, Microchip
Catalog distributor Allied Electronics of Fort Worth, Texas has signed a distribution agreement with passives component manufacturer Kemet. The agreement will expand Allied’s offerings of ceramic and tantalum capacitors.
Allied also signed a global distribution agreement to carry Microchip Technology’s lines of microcontrollers and analog semiconductors. The agreement includes distribution of Microchip’s entire range of semiconductors and development tools throughout the U.S., Europe, and Asia.
Dell eyes India
Dell says its first production facility in India should be operational by the end of the first half of 2007. The facility, located in Chennai on India’s Southeast coast, will produce desktop computers.
The facility is Dell’s first investment in India-based manufacturing. In its most recent quarter, Dell shipments to India increased 82% while revenue grew 63%.
Inventories fall
Inventory levels at DRAM suppliers have dropped to the lowest level in 20 months, according to researcher iSuppli.
Inventory levels fell as DRAM makers shifted production from DRAM to NAND flash. Double data rate parts had the lowest inventory level in August with just 0.99 weeks of inventory. As a result prices started to rise.
