General Motors announced that it is promoting Bo Andersson, currently vice president of global purchasing and supply, to group vice president effective April 1.
Andersson will continue his role as head of the purchasing organization, which he has held since late 2001. Purchasing has a request into GM for more information on Andersson’s new role.
Andersson has led a major overhaul in GM’s approach to supplier management, which he outlined to Purchasing in its Oct. 5, 2006 issue.
The move is likely a reward for Andersson's work on cost control at GM. The company recently reported fourth-quarter net income of $950 million fuel mainly by cost reductions, up from a $6.6 billion loss in the same period a year ago.
