To succeed in the future, purchasing professionals will need strong analytical, project management, collaborative and financial skills.
That's the assessment of Anurag Dixit, head of marketing for software developer Zycus. Dixit says that beyond gaining those skills, purchasing professionals have as one of their many challenges the attainment of return on investment for their investments and efforts.
"Purchasing is getting more popular in companies, and CPOs are getting more attention because of the economy," he says. "But expectations are higher too."
He says that buyers should intensify their benchmarking at this time and let their suppliers know that there is possible less expensive competition out in the marketplace. "But they should communicate that in a positive way," he says.
