Motion Industries acquires General Tool and Supply
Motion expands product line, geographic scope

Motion Industries has acquired General Tool and Supply, a regional industrial supplies distributor in Portland, Ore., and its subsidiary Industrial Tool and Supply in Tucson, Ariz.
General Tool and Supply has four locations in Oregon, Washington and Idaho. Industrial Tool and Supply has two locations in Arizona.
Motion Industries, based in Birmingham, Ala., is an industrial distributor of bearings, power transmission products and other components and supplies.
General Tool stocks in excess of 35,000 items including hand tools, power tools, precision tools and cutting tools.
Results of a recent survey published in the May issue of Purchasing show 35% of respondents are buying more through distribution than five years ago. These buyers view their distributors as partners and expect them to provide expanded offerings of products and services.
Bill Derville, president of General Tool and Supply and Rick Parlett, president of Industrial Tool and Supply will remain as the leadership team and continue to manage the business as General Tool and Supply and Industrial Tool and Supply.
Motion Industries places seventh on Industrial Distribution magazine’s Big 50 list for 2008 with $3.35 billion in annual sales.
