Canfor Pulp of Vancouver, Domtar of Montreal and Northern Pulp Nova Scotia of Abercrombie are planning to boost list prices in July to $700/ metric ton for northern bleached softwood kraft (NBSK) pulp. The RISI wood products subscription news service says the pulp hikes will vary from $20 to $40 by company to bring mill prices into equilibrium.
Data from the Pulp and Paper Products Council shows that bleached softwood kraft pulp shipments have improved lately, rising to 1.77 million metric tons in April from 1.63 million in March. Market surveys show that NBSK had dropped from $705 in January to $580 in March but has since moved back up to $635 in May.
