Bo Andersson leaves company in wake of GM bankruptcy

Bo Andersson, the one-time manager at Saab who became head of global purchasing and supply chain at GM, resigned from the company Friday. The brief GM press release announcing the exit included plaudits for Andersson from GM CEO Fritz Henderson.
Some auto analysts say Andersson’s resignation is among the first of many that will be announced in the coming weeks as a result of GM’s bankruptcy filing.
Andersson had been in charge of purchasing since 2001. He was one of the automotive industry executives to travel to Washington earlier this year to meet with President Obama’s automotive task force to discuss the status of the industry’s supply base. He was an advocate of constant monitoring of suppliers’ financial health. He told Purchasing that in some cases he would buy materials on behalf of the suppliers, adding an extra incentive to ensure suppliers’ finances were in order.
GM has not yet named a replacement.
